MEADVILLE, Pa.-- The Allegheny women's basketball team concluded its 2021-22 campaign in a 70-49 loss at home to Denison Saturday (Feb. 19).
Prior to the game, the Gators honored their four senior players -
Gabby Culotta (Willoughby, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy),
Tully Taylor (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut),
Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) and
Jenna Manke (Freeport, Pa./Freeport).
After trailing 7-2 early on, the Gators rattled off a 10-0 run to take the lead, 12-7, midway through the first quarter. The three seniors each scored during that run, kicked off by a Culotta second-chance basket. Allegheny maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the quarter to take a 17-12 lead into the second period.
Denison started the second quarter on a 10-2 spurt to regain the lead. Trailing by three, a
Branygan Bianchin (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) three-pointer tied the game at 24-24. The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the half, though Denison led, 33-31, at the half.
Once again, Denison came out strong after the break, scoring the first six points of the third quarter, growing its lead to 54-39 heading into the final frame. They held that lead in the fourth to secure the win.
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) led the Gators with 12 points and was second on the team with six rebounds. Manke ended the game with nine points alongside five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Taylor scored a career-high seven points with three rebounds while Culotta added four points in her final outing.
