BREVARD, N.C. -- The Allegheny baseball team dropped its first two games of the season 5-0 and 3-2 at Brevard on Saturday (Feb. 12).
Game one starter
Conor Deasy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) pitched four-plus innings, scattering four hits, allowing four runs (three earned), walking three, and striking out eight.
Brent Herrmann (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) followed suit by tossing 1.2 innings of one-run ball, before
Mark Schweickert (Glen Allen, Va./John Randolph Tucker) retired the only batter he faced in his college debut.
The offense had a couple of opportunities with runners on first and second in the third and fourth innings, but could not push anything across. Overall,
Jake Stotsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) paced the offense with a multi-hit effort.
In game two, Allegheny opened up the scoring in the second inning as
Brayden Cartwright (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) mashed an RBI double to bring home
Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and
Anthony Maslo (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) followed with an RBI knock of his own. Maslo finished 2-3 on the day with a pair of singles.
Allegheny could not bounce back after a three-run third inning from Brevard. Starter
Daniel Morgano (Allison Park, Pa./Vincentian Academy) worked around the frame by pitching five strong innings, and topping out at 96 pitches, yet picked up the tough-luck loss.
Allegheny will try to finish its three-game series on a high-note as the Gators take on Brevard tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
