MEADVILLE, Pa. – Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) led the Allegheny men's basketball team with a career-high 29 points as the Gators topped Thiel 84-70 Saturday (Dec. 3) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The Gators built an 18-10 lead over the opening seven minutes of play, with Lang scoring nine of those points. The game stayed close until about the midway point of the half. After that, the Gators offense shined as they closed out the opening 20 minutes on a 30-12 run, leading by as much as 26, to own a 50-27 lead at halftime.
Lang topped his career-high with 19 points in just the first half, hitting 8-of-10 shots, including three-of-four from three.
Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) nearly hit a double-double in the first half, tallying 14 points and nine rebounds. Allegheny owned a 30-18 rebound advantage and shot 51.4% (19-of-37) from the floor.
Thiel was able to make up a little ground in the first ten minutes of the second half as they outscored the Gators 21-18, but the Gators still maintained a 20 point lead. Allegheny then went on a 6-2 run to bring the lead back up to 24, leading to a Thiel timeout. The Tomcats would continue to battle back but the Gator lead never dipped below 10 points as they picked up the conference victory.
Inside the Box
- Lang's career-high 29 points came on 10-of-13 (75.0%) shooting from the floor. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
- Wilder also topped 20 points as he finished with a double-double, scoring 22 and grabbing 13 rebounds while blocking a pair of shots.
- Caden Hinckely (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) tied a season-high with five blocks. He was in double-digits with 11 points to go with eight rebounds.
- Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) tallied nine points, four rebounds and four assists while Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) had eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
- Josh Guy (Heath, Ohio/Heath) added three blocks as the Gators totaled 12 as a team, their most the season.
- Allegheny owned a 45-41 rebounding edge and shot 46.8% (29-of-62) from the floor.
