BETHANY, W. Va. – The Allegheny women's basketball team won their second straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road game, defeating Bethany 73-55 Tuesday (Nov. 22).
After some back-and-forth play to start, the Gators took over the first quarter, going on a 14-2 run to gain a 16-5 lead. Bethany fought back at the end of the quarter but the big run helped the Gators take a 23-11 lead into the second. The 23 points were the most in a single quarter by the Gators this season.
The Gators continued to grow their lead throughout the second quarter as they outscored the Bison 18-10. A late turn around jumper by
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) in the paint extended the advantage to 20, 41-21, heading into halftime.
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) and
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) paced the Gators with 10 points apiece in the opening half.
In the third quarter, the Gator lead never dipped lower than 17. A
Bella Wier (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) layup late in the quarter gave Allegheny a 60-36 lead going into the final frame. Allegheny sealed the conference victory in the fourth quarter as their advantage grew to as much as 28, closing out the game 73-55.
Inside the Box
- Lauer led the team with 16 points to go with three rebounds and three assists.
- Caldwell finished with 14 points, three rebounds and a team-high four assists.
- Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
- Wier was the fourth Gator in double figures with 10 points.
- Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) had seven points while Bickart had seven rebounds.
- Allegheny shot 48.5% (32-of-66) for the game, their best mark of the season.
