Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run lifts Oberlin past Allegheny

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny men's basketball team was unable to overcome a late Oberlin run as they fell 81-75 Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) at the Bill Sudeck Tournament hosted by Case Western Reserve.

Oberlin jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening two minutes. The Gators quickly fought back as a three by Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) put them in front, 6-4. Tied at eight, Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) scored six straight points. The Yeomen battled back with their own 6-0 run to tie the game but baskets by Barker and Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) gave the Gators the lead once more.

The back-and-forth action continued as Oberlin tied the game back up at 23. From there, neither team found an advantage until late in the half when a Yeomen three gave them a 42-37 halftime lead.

Oberlin maintained their advantage in the early portions of the second half, but Lang's second three-pointer brought the game within three, 51-48. Additional three-pointers by Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) and Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) brought the game within one, 55-54. However, Oberlin responded with a 14-4 run to increase the lead to 69-58.

In the final minute, the Gators brought the lead down to four on multiple occasions off baskets by Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) and Barker, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
