MEADVILLE, Pa. -- An early goal by
Abby Waryanka (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) stood up, and a solid all-around defensive effort gave the Allegheny women's soccer team its second win in three matches, a 1-0 clean sheet against Buffalo State on the Blue Turf.
Waryanka found the back of the net for the second time this season on a header off a corner kick by
Natasha Rosa (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) after just over five minutes of game time elapsed. It proved to be all the Gators would need, as the Allegheny defense limited the Buffalo State offense to just five shots (two on goal) in the match, compared to 20 for the home side.
Rosa, Waryanka,
Emily Orr (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) and
Alex Klare (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) tied for the match high with three shots apiece, while
Riley Sawyer (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt),
Taylor McKindley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) and
Lilly Noel (Shepherdstown, W.Va./St. James) each collected a pair of shots.
Kaitlynn Rees (Anaheim, Calif./Fullerton Union) picked up her second win of the year and played all 90 minutes in the first shutout of the year for Allegheny. The senior made two saves in the victory.
Allegheny returns to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action when it travels to Granville, Ohio for a noon kickoff at Denison on Saturday, Oct. 2.
