MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny's women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Wooster (27-25, 25-21, 25-19) on Wednesday (Oct. 27) in its final North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) home matchup of the season. With the defeat, the Gators drop to 14-9, 2-6 NCAC.
Seniors
Kate Christie (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna),
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) were honored before tonight's contest as each player received a framed jersey with their number, and a bouquet of flowers. Additionally, their jersey numbers were taped up facing Allegheny's side of the court in commemoration of their athletic achievements.
Although the Gators were unable to provide a victory for the momentous occasion, the three sets were hard-fought. Allegheny tied for their longest deadlock in a set this season as they also had a 27-25 effort versus Ohio Wesleyan on Oct. 16.
In the second set, the Gators led 10-5 to start off the frame. Despite Allegheny losing the lead, the two teams were tied at 17-17 before Wooster went on an 8-4 run to be up 2-0 in the series. Similarly, in the last set, the Gators were winning, this time by a score of 14-11. Allegheny was unable to hold the lead and were tied at 16-16 before Wooster closed out the match.
Offensively,
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) and
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio./Amanda Clearcreek) paced the Gators with nine and eight kills, respectively. Meanwhile, D'Andrea racked up 17 assists, while Besch, Christie and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) each registered a game-high two service aces.
Defensively,
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley), Besch and D'Andrea each reached 10-plus digs. Wilson totaled the most digs with 14, tying a season-high with her performance on Sept. 29 against Oberlin. Moreover,
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) recorded four blocks in the evening.
Allegheny will finish off the season on Saturday, Oct. 23 with two nonconference contests versus RIT at 1 p.m. and Nazareth at 5 p.m.
