MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done in a 38-14 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) loss against DePauw at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
DePauw built a 35-0 lead through three quarters with three passing touchdowns through the air in the first half and two rushing scores in the third period. Allegheny got on the board when
Trevor Brncic (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) connected with
Moses Snell Jr. (North Lauderdale, Fla./Taravella) on a 33-yard scoring strike that capped a 94-yard touchdown drive. The big plays on that were a 15-yard spurt to open the drive by
John Ian Duron (Coral Springs, Fla./JP Taravella), a 25-yard connection from Brncic to
Mark Torsello (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and the scoring play by Snell.
The Tigers answered that score with a 45-yard field goal, but the Gators came right back and marched 75 yards to the end zone. This drive ended with Brncic's second touchdown pass, this one a 10-yard dart to
Vaun Ross (New Kensington, Pa./Valley). The catch was the 14th of the day for Ross, matching the school record that he had previously tied earlier this season at Wabash.
Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) completed 27-of-42 passes for 159 yards in three quarters, while Brncic finished with a line of 10-for-13 for 137 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth. To go with the 14 catches, Ross had 77 yards and a touchdown. Snell was second on the team in both receptions (five) and yards (58).
Hudson Already (Victor, N.Y./Victor) paced the defense with 10 tackles (five solo) and one of the team's six tackles for loss. The quartet of
Jathan Reynolds (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd H Anderson),
Score Perkins (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn),
Travis Dear (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and
David Babb (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Chaminade Madonna) each finished tied for second on the squad with six tackles, as Perkins led the group with five solo stops and a TFL and Babb added an impressive interception.
Austin Ferguson (Creedmoor, N.C./South Granville) and
Edward Veliz (Cutler Bay, Fla./Miami Palmetto) both tallied solo sacks.
Allegheny will remain home to host Wittenberg at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as it will serve at the "Pink Out" game for breast cancer awareness month.
