MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny led through the first 15 minutes of the game, but was unable to hang on for its first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win of the season in a 27-13 defeat against Kenyon at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
After Kenyon got on the scoreboard first, the Gators responded with a seven play, 60-yard drive in just 1:35.
Kyrie Miller (Bolivar, Pa./Ligonier Valley) capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge. A
Garrett Paxton (Freedom, Pa./Freedom Area) extra point tied the game at 7-7.
On the ensuing kickoff,
CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) forced a Kenyon fumble which was recovered by
Malcolm Denomme (Edgewood, N.M./Moriarty). Allegheny needed just a minute before
Tre Worship (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) found paydirt on another one-yard run as the Gators climbed ahead 13-7.
Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) went 27-for-47 passing, good for 251 yards.
Anthony Steinpreis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) and
Jack Parker (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) caught six passes apiece to lead the receiving corps, going for 68 and 64 yards, respectively.
David Babb (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Chaminade Madonna) led the Gator defense with 11 total tackles, as well as an interception and a pass breakup.
Maxwell Hammond (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) finished with 10 tackles, 1.5 of those going for a loss.
Chris Rubino (Monaca, Pa./The Kiski School) and
Jonmarick Crawford (Baingridge, N.Y./Sydney) had a sack apiece.
On special teams,
Marcus Wolf (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) averaged 44.6 yards per punt and had five punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
Following a bye week this coming week, the Gators will return to NCAC play when they hit the road to Hiram, Ohio for a 1 pm kickoff against the Terriers.
