Allegheny stopped by Kenyon, 27-13

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny led through the first 15 minutes of the game, but was unable to hang on for its first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win of the season in a 27-13 defeat against Kenyon at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

After Kenyon got on the scoreboard first, the Gators responded with a seven play, 60-yard drive in just 1:35. Kyrie Miller (Bolivar, Pa./Ligonier Valley) capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge. A Garrett Paxton (Freedom, Pa./Freedom Area) extra point tied the game at 7-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) forced a Kenyon fumble which was recovered by Malcolm Denomme (Edgewood, N.M./Moriarty). Allegheny needed just a minute before Tre Worship (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) found paydirt on another one-yard run as the Gators climbed ahead 13-7.

Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) went 27-for-47 passing, good for 251 yards. Anthony Steinpreis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) and Jack Parker (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) caught six passes apiece to lead the receiving corps, going for 68 and 64 yards, respectively.

David Babb (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Chaminade Madonna) led the Gator defense with 11 total tackles, as well as an interception and a pass breakup. Maxwell Hammond (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) finished with 10 tackles, 1.5 of those going for a loss. Chris Rubino (Monaca, Pa./The Kiski School) and Jonmarick Crawford (Baingridge, N.Y./Sydney) had a sack apiece.

On special teams, Marcus Wolf (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) averaged 44.6 yards per punt and had five punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

Following a bye week this coming week, the Gators will return to NCAC play when they hit the road to Hiram, Ohio for a 1 pm kickoff against the Terriers.
