MEADVILLE, Pa. -- After a pair of nonconference games last week, the Allegheny women's soccer team returned to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Tuesday (Oct. 12), playing host to Oberlin.
The game ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw. The tie brings the Gators' record to 4-8-1 overall and 0-2-1 in NCAC play.
After a scoreless first half,
Taylor McKindley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) struck in the 58th minute. After stealing the ball off a defender, McKindley sent a shot over the outstretched arms of the Oberlin goalkeeper, sneaking the ball under the crossbar to give Allegheny the lead. However, Oberlin tied it off a free kick in the 75th minute, which ultimately led to the overtime sessions.
The Gators controlled the pace of play during the extra sessions, outshooting the Yeowomen 4-3. In the final minute of play, Allegheny won a pair of corners but Oberlin was able to clear them as the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
McKindley led the Gators with three shots on target with the lone goal. Oberlin owned a slight 14-13 edge in shots though the Gators had an 8-6 advantage on corner opportunities.
Gabby Culotta (Willoughby, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) made six saves in goal.
The Gators are back at home Saturday (Oct. 16) when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m. on the Blue Turf at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
