Gators' season ends with loss to OWU in quarterfinals

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball team's season came to an end Tuesday (Feb. 25) as they fell in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) quarterfinals at Ohio Wesleyan, 78-60.

The Gators finish the 2019-20 season with an 11-15 record and a 7-9 mark in conference play, which earned them the fifth seed in the tournament – their highest since 2016.

Zoe Youdell (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) led the way offensively for the Gators with 16 points while pulling in five rebounds.  She was one of four Gators in double-digits.

Rylee Donovan (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) finished the game with 13 points alongside a team-high three assists.  Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wisc./Whitefish Bay) had 11 points and six rebounds.

Reigning NCAC Athlete of the Week and d3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree Julianna Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Oakland Catholic) had her third double-double of the season as she tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior Zoe Soilis (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) tallied four points and a pair of assists in her final game as a Gator.

The Gators opened the game by making their first four shots from the field, taking an 8-6 lead.  The hot shooting continued throughout the first, but the Battling Bishops were able to stick with the Gators and keep it within a one possession game.  Late in the quarter, Ohio Wesleyan went on a 9-2 run to take a 22-16 lead into the second.

A quick run over the first three minutes of the second gave the Gators pulled within one, 25-24.  The game remained close, but a late basket gave the Battling Bishops a 36-30 lead at the break.

The Battling Bishops came out of the locker room strong, outpacing the Gators in the third quarter 24-14, taking a 60-44 lead into the final ten minutes.

The Gators had an 18-16 scoring edge in the final frame but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
