Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gators hit century mark, cruise past Kenyon 100-77 behind hot shooting

GAMBIER, Ohio -- All five starters scored in double digits as the Allegheny men's basketball team locked down a tie for fifth place in the regular season and the No. 6 seed in next week's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament with a decisive 100-77 win at Kenyon.

For the Gators, it marked the first time reaching the century mark since Nov. 20, 2009, an identical 100-77 win on the road at Westminster to kick off that campaign. The victory over Kenyon also guarantees the Blue & Gold its first winning record since that same 2009-10 campaign. That year, Allegheny posted a 14-11 overall mark, which matches the current squad's record, featuring an 8-10 mark in the NCAC -- the best since 2014-15 when Allegheny also secured the conference's sixth seed. The 8-10 record this year is good for a fifth-place tie with Oberlin, but the Yeomen claimed the fifth seed on tiebreakers.

Jordan Rawls (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) once again led all players with 23 points, the 13th time this season the senior has topped 20 points. In addition, he added eight rebounds and six assists. For a second-straight game, Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) totaled 20 points, his sixth 20-plus point showing of the season. His point total was fueled by his five three-pointers, which matches a career best. Allegheny improved to 5-1 on the year when the sophomore reaches 20 points.

Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley) reached double-digits for the seventh time in the last eight games, knocking down three triples en route to 17 points. The guard also hauled in sixi rebounds. Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) finished with 14 points, while newcomer Keeno Holmes (Pittsburgh, Pa./Lincoln Park) added 13 points, including a trio of triples.

For the game, Allegheny knocked down a season-high 16 three-pointers, including an impressive 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) showing in the second half alone.

As the sixth seed, Allegheny will open play on the road at the number three seed on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. That quarterfinal opponent for a consecutive year will be Wooster as the two teams will play a rubber match after splitting the regular season pair of contests. The Scots nipped the Gators, 62-61, in Meadville on Dec. 4, while the Blue & Gold avenged the loss with an 89-84 triumph in Ohio on Jan. 29.
