GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team continued competition at the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships on Thursday (Feb. 13), held at Denison.
After two days of competition, the Gators sit in fourth with 311 points.
The women's 200 free relay team of
Sadie Brown (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community),
Anna Verardi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny),
Aimee Verardi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and
McClaren Rodriguez (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City) finished fourth with a time 1:37.81.
Five Gators earned spots in the 500 freestyle finals.
Olivia Maack (Bristol, Ind./Elkhart Central) and Rodriguez represented Allegheny in the B Final. Maack finished 13th overall with a time of 5:13.04, and Rodriguez finished 17th overall, timing at 5:17.44.
Hannah Tonsmann (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) won the C Finals with a time of 5:15.52 to finish 19th overall.
Alyson Codner (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School) was just behind her in 20th, touching the wall in 5:19.69.
Jenna Halenda (Mars, Pa./Mars) placed 24th with a time of 5:25.28.
Three Gators swam in the 200 individual medley finals.
Emily Schaefer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) and
Aimee Verardi swam in the B Finals. Schaefer placed 12th overall with a time of 2:10.72, and Verardi finished the event in 15th with a time of 2:14.57. Swimming in the C Finals,
Maddie Janvrin (Woodridge, Ill./Naperville) finished the event in 25th with a time of 2:18.36.
Brown had the top swimming finish on the day individually, qualifying for the A Finals of the 50 freestyle, and swimming to a time of 24.11, good for ninth place. With her preliminary time of 24.14, she missed the Allegheny women's record of 24.10 by .04 second.
Anna Verardi swam in the B Finals, placing 16th with a time of 24.55.
Maggie Baham (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and
Savannah Plaskon (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) competed in the C Finals as Baham raced to a time of 25.52 to take 20th, while Plaskon took 23rd in 25.58.
The second night also featured the women's one-meter diving, as the duo of
Chelsea Pietrzycki (Parma, Ohio/Parma) and
Brionna Litwin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) closed the competition in consecutive places, fourth and fifth, respectively. Pietrzycki put up a score of 376.25, just 2.70 points away from third, while Litwin totaled 369.10.
To end the night, the 400 medley relay team of Janvrin, Tonsmann,
Anna Verardi and Brown finished in 5th-place, clocking in with a time of 3:59.67.
Day three action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 with the preliminaries of the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and men's one-meter diving. The finals in those same events will begin at 6 p.m.
