Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Allegheny matches best start since 1997-98, fends off Kenyon 68-66

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny men's basketball team continued its best start since the 1997-98 campaign by fending off Kenyon, 68-66, at James H. Mullen, Jr. Arena.

With the victory, the Gators improve to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The 9-4 record matches the same start from the 1997-98 team, which was the last to win the NCAC crown. Kenyon falls to 5-8 this year and 2-4 in league action.

Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) reached 20 points for the second time in the last three games, putting up 20 thanks to four three-pointers and a handful of points at the bucket. He also added six boards to his performance. Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) reached double digits for the sixth straight game and ninth time this season as he contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals. Keeno Holmes (Pittsburgh, Pa./Lincoln Park) had the sixth double-digit showing of his rookie campaign with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He also had a game-high four steals.

Jordan Rawls (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) saw his streak of 27 consecutive games in double figures narrowly snapped as the senior tallied a well-rounded game of nine points, eight rebounds and six assists. His streak spanned the entire calendar year of 2019 and started on Dec. 21, 2018 at DePauw. During that time, the senior averaged 22.0 points per game, topped 20 points 18 times, 30 points five times and 40 points once.

For the game, the Gators made 10 three-pointers, the sixth time this year they've done that. Allegheny also shared the ball well, recording 18 assists on 26 made field goals.

The Blue & Gold will play four of their next five on the road, beginning with a 6 p.m. tip-off at Hiram on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
