WASHINGTON, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's tennis team concluded non-conference play with a 9-0 sweep on the road at Washington & Jefferson College Thursday (April 18).
The sweep marked the ninth of the season for the Gators, the most since they also had nine sweeps during the 2013-14 season.
With the win, the Gators improve to 11-8 on the year while Presidents fall to 12-3.
At first doubles,
Wonjoon Cho (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate School) and
Matt Andrus (Erin, Ont./Erin District) won 8-5.
Colton Johnson Taylor (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) and
Zach Anderson (Bell Meade, N.J./Montgomery) picked up an 8-3 win at second doubles.
Cooper Miller (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer Central) and
Mackenzie Knowlton (Toronto, Ont./Niagara Academy of Tennis) wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory in the third flight.
Cho won 6-4, 7-5 at first singles. At second singles, Andrus and Sam Bellini went into a tiebreaker. Andrus prevailed 10-5 in the extra session to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5). Johnson Taylor was victorious at third singles 6-0, 6-2. Anderson also had his match at fourth singles go into a tiebreaker, with him winning it 10-7 to collect the win 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Miller had a 6-0, 6-0 clean sweep at fifth singles, while Knowlton won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.
The Gators are back in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Saturday (April 20) at Oberlin College.
