MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's basketball team fell to Washington & Jefferson by a score of 72-63 in nonconference action on Tuesday (Nov. 26).
The Gators erased a 22 point halftime lead to tie the game at 52 with 7:58 remaining as they went on a 27-5 run. The run was led by six points from junior guard
Rylee Donovan (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area), in her first action of the season, and eight points by
Zoe Soilis (Sarver, Pa./Freeport).
Allegheny then scored the next five points to give them a 57-52 advantage, before a three by the Presidents stopped the run. A layup from W&J with 2:31 left in the final period gave the visitors a 61-60 advantage and a late push would result in the Presidents outscoring the Gators 11-3 to close out the game.
Soilis once again earned double-digit points with 15 to add to two assists.
Julianna Skowron (Sewickley, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) also scored in double figures with 10 apiece. Skowron then added five rebounds.
Zoe Youdell (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) tallied eight points of her own while also grabbing four rebounds and assisting on two buckets.
In her return, Donovan tallied a team-high five assists, pulled in four rebounds, and blocked a shot. Youdell and Soilis also added blocks to give the Gators a three to two advantage in that column.
Jenna Manke (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) and
Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) tied for the team-high with six rebounds, while Rabold and Caldwell led the defense with two steals each.
The Gators second half run was helped by 13 fast break points and 13 points off their bench. The team also controlled the paint with 38 points, compared to 28 for the Presidents.
The Gators are back in action for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup on Saturday (Nov. 30) as the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan travel to the James H. Mullen Area for a 2:00 p.m. game.
