OBERLIN, Ohio -- Senior
Kyle McGee (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) made a career-high 21 tackles -- fifth most in program history, to help the Gators to a second-half comeback and 31-20 win over Oberlin in the 2019 season finale.
McGee's 21 tackles give him sole possession of fifth place on the Allegheny single-game list, moving past teammate
Corey Laskey (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), who recorded 20 against Denison earlier this year, and Andy Toner, who also made 20 against Carnegie Mellon in 2007. With his performance today, McGee closes out the year with 104 tackles, the most in a season by a Gator since Nick Murgo turned in 104 tackles during the 2015 campaign. Against Oberlin, McGee made 12 solo stops and nine assisted, with 2.0 going for losses and 1.0 sack.
The only points of the first half for Allegheny, which trailed 13-3 at intermission, came on a 26-yard field goal by sophomore
Nick Leinenweber (Neptune Beach, Fla./Episcopal School). It didn't take long, however, for the Gators to capture the lead in the second half, as senior
Alex Victor (Miami, Fla./G. Holmes Braddock) returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown at 12:08 of the third quarter -- the first of his career, 13-10. After the defense forced a three-and-out on the next drive, senior
Dwaine Barber (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah Gardens) hauled in a 69-yard pass from junior
Nazareth Greer (Apache Junction, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) to put Allegheny ahead, 17-13, at the 9:09-mark of the third.
Oberlin took the lead back with a 24-yard pass at 6:06 of the quarter, 20-17, but Victor scored on a pass from junior
Austin French (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) from one-yard out with 49 seconds left in the period to give the guests the lead back for good. The final points of the day were by way of a 17-yard pass from Greer to senior
Joe Hayes (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern), which came on the first play after
Jake Fedell (Allison Park, Pa./The Kiski School) picked off the Yeomen.
Greer completed 14-of-23 passes for 199 yards and two scores, with two interceptions. Barber's 85 yards (on three catches) led all receivers, while Victor finished with eight grabs for 61 yards and a score. For the second-straight game,
Tonye Hamilton (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Richmond Heights) rushed for 97 yards, this time on 15 carries, to finish tops in the game.
Anchored by McGee's effort, the defense totaled 12.0 TFLs and four sacks. Laskey made eight tackles, 2.0 TFLs and forced a fumble, while senior
Austin Hoyt (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) had 2.5 TFL and
Cameron Schadl (Covington, Ga./Alcovy) had a pair of sacks. Collectively, the Gators held the Yeomen to 261 yards on 70 plays, and moved to 4-0 on the year when winning the time of possession battle, holding the ball for 30:22.
Allegheny finishes the season -- the first under head coach
Rich Nagy -- at 4-6 overall and 4-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), including winning four of its last five.
