Gators down Fighting Scots in a 4-1 NCAC showdown

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Allegheny men's soccer team defeated Wooster 4-1 on Wednesday (Oct. 30) with three second-half goals in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup.

Jack Barron-Sluga (Guelph, Ont./Appleby College) earned the win in goal as he made 11 saves, his third double-digit showing of the season.

Matt Massucci (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) opened the scoring for the Gators with a goal in the 32nd minute, off an assist from Jorge Olan (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley). Allegheny then doubled its lead as Ryan Hilty (Jeanette, Pa./Penn Trafford) worked his way to the end of a long cross and earned a free kick in the 48th minute, right outside the box. Owen Harkins (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) took the kick for the Gators and buried it in the back of the net, past the diving keeper.

Wooster got one back two and a half minutes later as Manny Burton found a through pass from Max Rochester and scored.

Allegheny quickly got that goal back after Olan fed the ball to Danny Reid (Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) who then lifted a looping shot over the keeper and into the net. The Gators then extended the lead in the 65th minute when Ryan Clydesdale (South Park, Pa./South Park) sent a shot over the outstretched glove of the Wooster goalie that found its way right under the crossbar, putting the score at 4-1.

Olan led the offense with five shots and two assists. Reid followed with three shots and a goal, and the pair of Massucci and Harkins each tallied a goal to go along with two shots. Hilty also took two shots. Dillon Thoma (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Eddie Opalko (Springdale, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic), and Clydesdale notched the other three strikes for the Gators.

Allegheny concludes the 2019 regular season with a road conference match at Wittenberg on Saturday (Nov. 2), starting at 1:00 p.m.
