Gators drop 8-6 slugfest at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- A fourth-quarter touchdown run by Tonye Hamilton (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Richmond Heights) brought the Gators a chance to tie the game, but the conversion fell short as the Allegheny football team dropped an 8-6 decision at DePauw.

A fourth-down conversion on a three-yard rush by Alex Victor (Miami, Fla./G. Braddock Holmes) set up the Gators with first and goal early in the fourth quarter, allowing Hamilton's first-down jaunt into the end zone. Nazareth Greer (Apache Junction, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) attempted a pass for the two-point conversion, but it fell incomplete to set the final margin.

The Tigers struck first with a six-yard scoring rush in the second quarter, but the point-after attempt failed. The home team added to its lead with a safety on a punt snap over the head of Marcus Wolf (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) on the next possession.

Greer finished 14-of-27 for 122 yards in less than ideal weather conditions. Victor caught nine passes for 48 yards and Ben Bachik (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the team with 49 receiving yards on three grabs. Victor was the leading rusher for Allegheny with 29 yards on a pair of rushes, while Hamilton carried 13 times for 26 yards and his first score of the year.

The Gator defense held the Tigers to 256 yards of total offense (197 rushing), and racked up a season-high 10 tackles for loss. Darian Parrish (Princeton, Fla./Miami Palmetto) registered a game- and season-high 3.0 TFL, including the lone Allegheny sack, as part of his six tackles. He also recovered a fumble. Defensive linemen Hunter Cazin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and Grayson Lee (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) each recorded a pair of TFLs. Chase Balla (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) led the team with seven stops on the day.

Allegheny hosts Hiram next weekend, Saturday, Nov. 2, for Blue & Gold Weekend in Meadville. Kickoff at Frank B. Fuhrer Field is set for 1 p.m.
