MEADVILLE, Pa. --
Brian Roberts, Jr. scored 25 points for the third time in the last four games, and
Jordan Rawls had 22-plus points for the fourth time in the last five games, but Allegheny dropped a 98-84 men's basketball decision to Ohio Wesleyan.
The loss drops the Gators to 7-9 overall and 3-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), while the Battling Bishops are now 9-8 on the year and 4-6 in NCAC play.
OWU came out firing, knocking down 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) from three-point range in the first half and utilizing a 24-0 run to erase an early seven-point Gators' lead. For the game, the Bishops made 17 of the 42 three-pointers they attempted, good for 40.5 percent. Allegheny, meanwhile, was just 6-of-22 from beyond-the-arc, including 1-of-7 in the second half. The Gators made 20-of-27 free throws, including 12-of-14 by Roberts, Jr.
To go with his 25 points, Roberts, Jr. pulled down a season-best nine rebounds, and also handed out three assists and swiped three steals. Rawls made nine field goals en route to 23 points, while also recording a career-high 15 rebounds, one more than his previous career best of 14 which he had accomplished twice (once in each of the last two years).
Zach Ecker reached double figures for the first time on the glass, snagging 10 boards, while adding eight points.
Caden Hinckley also added eight points, plus four boards.
Billy Urso made a pair of trifectas and handed out five assists.
Lamar Todd pitched in seven points.
The Gators led in points in the paint, 36-28, points off turnovers, 8-2, and second-chance points, 16-9, thanks in part to 15 offensive rebounds. Overall, Allegheny held a 48-42 rebounding advantage.
No. 21 Wooster is next on the schedule for Allegheny, with the Gators playing host to the Fighting Scots at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
