Gators Suffer Setback at Pitt Bradford

 
BRADFORD, Pa.—The Allegheny College volleyball team fell in non-conference action to Pitt-Bradford Tuesday (Sept. 4).
 
The Panthers won the sets 25-17, 25-14 and 27-25.
 
The Gators and Panthers were even early on, finding themselves tied at ten.  The Gators took a brief lead before the Panthers rallied and gained a 19-14 advantage.  After a timeout, the Gators fought back but were unable to overcome the deficit as they fell 25-17 in the opening set.
 
The Panthers got off to a fast start in the second set, taking a 10-3 lead.  They continued to control the momentum, pushing the led to 16-8 before the Gators called a timeout.  The Gators chipped away at the lead but ended up falling in the set 25-14.
 
The Gators regained their footing in the third set, starting on a 9-4 run that led to a Panther timeout.  After the timeout, the Panthers slowly came back, bringing the score to within two at 16-14 before the Gators called a timeout.  The Gators held the Panthers in check as Pitt Bradford called their second timeout down 21-19.  The Panthers staved off a pair of match points to tie the set at 24.  After trading points, the Panthers scored the final two points of the set to secure the three set win 26-24. 
 
Alysha Crowther led the Gators with eight kills.  Jyl Russotti and Grace Lengauer finished with six apiece. 
 
Defensively, Rachel Slotterback led the Gators with 16 digs, on top of two aces.  Rebecca MacQuarrie had eight digs and 13 assists while Lengauer and Raelynn Dorscheid had seven digs apiece. 
 
The Gators are back in action this weekend t the Gator Invitational, facing D'Youville and Westminster on Friday, and Mount Union and Marietta Saturday.
