MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College volleyball team fell in a pair of home non-conference games Saturday (Sept. 29) against Washington & Jefferson College and Baldwin Wallace University.
Washington & Jefferson 3, Allegheny 0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19)
The teams were even throughout much of the opening until the Gators started gained some breathing room with a 20-18 lead. However, the Presidents responded with a 7-1 run which wrapped up the opening set.
The Gators led the second set early on, but the Presidents started rolling and jumped ahead to an 11-5 advantage. A Gator timeout failed to stymie the momentum for Washington and Jefferson as they moved ahead 2-0 in the match.
After trading scoring sequences to open the third set, the Gators rattled off four straight points to take a 10-7 lead. After a timeout, the Presidents took a 13-12 lead, only for the Gators to go one another run to regain the lead, 15-13. The back-and-forth continued as a 4-0 Presidents run gave them a 17-15 lead. The Gators pulled within one at 19-18, but the Presidents went on a 6-1 run to close out the match.
Grace Lengauer led the Gators with 12 kills.
Alysha Crowther had seven while Olvia D'Andrea had five as a setter to go with 22 assists and a pair of aces.
Defensively,
Rachel Slotterback led the way with 18 digs. Lengauer and
Eden Merkle had 10 digs apiece.
Washington and Jefferson was led by Julia Galbraith and Madison Lydic, who had seven kills apiece.
Baldwin Wallace 3, Allegheny 0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-10)
Crowther led the Gators with seven kills against the Yellow Jackets.
A'Jhana Dicko had three kills while Lengauer and
Elizabeth Debich had a pair each. D'Andrea had 12 assists.
Defensively, D'Andrea and Slotterback had eight digs apiece while Rebecca MacWuarrie had six.
Alexis Garrett led the Yellow Jackets with eight kills while Taylor Brown had three aces. Sarah Reinhard had 15 digs.
The Gators are back in action Thursday (Oct. 4) when they host local rival Penn State Behrend at 7 p.m.
