HUNTINGDON, PA.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team opened their 2018 season on the road against Juniata College.
The Gators struck first, but a pair of second half goals, including one with two minutes remaining, gave the Eagles the non-conference victory.
The Gators had a couple scoring opportunities early one.
Jon Sion got through a slide by the Juniata keeper, but had the ball knocked away from him inside the box. Minutes later, the
Jacob LeSane found a teammate inside the goalie box who snuck a shot past the goalie, but was called offside.
Juniata earned a scoring chance minutes later but
Cory Wiard made a sliock save with his foot in a one-on-one situation.
In the 26
th minute, the Gators once again had a chance to open the scoring but
Danny Reid's shot went just above the crossbar. Just over a minute later, the Gators earned a penalty shot opportunity.
Matt Massucci took the shot for the Gators, converting on a shot to his lower right corner, giving the Gators a 1-0 lead.
Juniata found the equalizer off the foot of Wyatt Page shortly into the second half. The game remained stalemated at one. In the 76
th minute, the Gators earned a corner kick, but were unable to convert the set piece. Minutes later,
Jon Sion put a shot on target but it was turned away.

With just over two minutes remaining, the Eagles earned and converted a Bass Diakhuompa penalty kick, giving them a 2-1 lead.
The Gators had a shot to tie it late, but LeSane's shot was saved.
Massuci and Reid had two shots apiece. Wiard finished the game with a pair of saves.
The Gators are back in action Saturday (Sept. 1) as they travel to Penn State Altoona.
