Late Goal Spoils Men's Soccer Opener

HUNTINGDON, PA.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team opened their 2018 season on the road against Juniata College.

The Gators struck first, but a pair of second half goals, including one with two minutes remaining, gave the Eagles the non-conference victory.

The Gators had a couple scoring opportunities early one.  Jon Sion got through a slide by the Juniata keeper, but had the ball knocked away from him inside the box.  Minutes later, the Jacob LeSane found a teammate inside the goalie box who snuck a shot past the goalie, but was called offside.

Juniata earned a scoring chance minutes later but Cory Wiard made a sliock save with his foot in a one-on-one situation.

In the 26th minute, the Gators once again had a chance to open the scoring but Danny Reid's shot went just above the crossbar.  Just over a minute later, the Gators earned a penalty shot opportunity.  Matt Massucci took the shot for the Gators, converting on a shot to his lower right corner, giving the Gators a 1-0 lead.

Juniata found the equalizer off the foot of Wyatt Page shortly into the second half.  The game remained stalemated at one.  In the 76th minute, the Gators earned a corner kick, but were unable to convert the set piece.  Minutes later, Jon Sion put a shot on target but it was turned away.
