INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— The Allegheny College men's tennis team concluded their season with a tight 5-4 win over the College of Wooster in the seventh-place match at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships Saturday (April 28).
The victory avenged the Gators' 5-4 loss to the Fighting Scots two weeks prior.
The Fighting Scots won the first doubles flight, as Titas Berra and Jesse Dewitt defeated
Jai Redkar and
Colton Johnson Taylor by a close 9-7 score.
Second doubles came down to a tiebreaker between the Gators'
Zach Anderson and
Cooper Miller and the Fighting Scots' Nathan Devereux and Joaquin Abos Amo. The Gator duo was able to break en route to a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker, taking the set 9-8.
The Gators also found success at third doubles.
Jacob Stringer and
Mackenzie Knowlton faced Jorrit de Rouw and Andrew Long. Like the other matches, their contest was tight, but a break gave Stringer and Knowlton a 9-7 win.
The Fighting Scots collected wins at first, second and fourth singles, while the Gators won the fifth and sixth singles.
In the fifth flight, Stringer defeated de Rouw 6-1, 6-3. Knowlton had the same result in his sixth singles match as he defeated Saeed Husain.
The overall match came down to the third singles flight between Miller and DeWitt. The first set was close as they went into a tiebreaker, in which Miller captured 7-3. The momentum from the tiebreaker win carried over to the second set as he won it 6-3 to seal the Gator victory.
With the victory, Allegheny concludes the 2017-18 campaign with an 11-8 overall record.
