Scots Top Gators in Home Finale

MEADVILLE, Pa.— The Allegheny College men's soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of first half goals as they dropped their final home game of the year, 3-1, to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe College of Wooster Tuesday (Oct. 23).

The Gators had a solid scoring chance in the 16th minute.  Danny Reid shot from the far side, 18-yards out, but hit the inside of the near post, bouncing out.

The Fighting Scots got on the board minutes later.  Max Rochester worked the ball down the goal line, crossing it to Manny Burton who scored from three-yards out.

Owen Harkins put on direct kick on net in the 20th minute, but the shot was turned away.

Wooster notched a second goal in the 36th minute.  Rochester converted a short pass to Andreas Xenofontos inside the box, who struck from a short distance.

After the break, Wooster extended their lead to three.  In the 71st minute, a corner from Rochester found Alex Montalbano on the far side post, heading it in under the crossbar.

In the 80th minute, the Gators got on the board.  Jorge Olan dribbled the ball through the box, striking from about 10-yards out, planting it in the top right corner.

After Olan's goal, the Gator offense continued to pressure the Wooster defense.  Harkins had a shot go right over the crossbar.  Shortly after, Jon Sion had a shot ricochet of the left post.  Reid and Dillon Thoma also placed a shot on net but was turned away by the keeper as Wooster hung on for the win.

Allegheny outshot the Fighting Scots 15-8, and had a 9-7 advantage on corner kicks.  Olan's goal marked his first of the season.

Burton had a goal and an assist for Wooster while Rochester had a pair of assists.

The Gators conclude their season Saturday (Oct. 27) when they travel to 16th-ranked Kenyon College.
