Westminster Sweeps Gators in Nonconference Play

MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College softball team fell in a nonconference doubleheader battle against Westminster College Sunday (April 2) at home.

The Titans won game one 21-1 and game two 8-4.

GAME ONE
After a scoreless first, the Titans' bats came alive in the second as they scored 12 runs.

Emily Cramer hit a two-out double in the second but was left stranded on base.

In the third, the Titans added eight more to increase the lead.

In the third, Blinkiewicz was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Jessica Valerino double off the left field fence.  Jessica Zavolta earned a walk to load the bases but the Titans got out of the jam.

In the top of the fifth, the Titans plated one more run.

With two outs in the fifth, Blinkiewicz singled up the middle.  After Valerino was walked on four pitches, Zavolta singled up the middle, bringing Blinkiewicz home from second.  The Titans recorded the third out without allowing anymore Gators to come across the plate to seal the win.

Valerino and Cramer had doubles for the Gators.  Zavolta had a hit and a RBI while Blinkiewicz had a hit and a run.  Miranda Arison struck out five.

GAME TWO
The Titans struck early, scoring two runs in the opening frame.

In the bottom of the first, Valerino hit an infield single to the shortstop.  Abrianna Sadler followed up with a shot down the left field line, bringing Valerino all the way home from first to cut the gap to one.

Sarah Rogan led off the second with a single through the right side.  Maria DiDonato moved Rogan up to second on a sac bunt.  Blinkiewicz followed up with a RBI single, bringing Rogan home.  Valerino then hit a bloop single to right field, bringing Blinkiewicz home to give the Gators a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Titans strung hits together as they plated five runs to regain the lead, 7-3.

In the fifth, Zavolta earned a walk to lead off.  Jessica Gordon stepped in to pinch run for her.  Sadler followed up by reaching first safely and advancing Gordon to second.  However, the Titans got out of the jam without allowing a run.

In the sixth, Rogan reached first safely to lead off.  Shannon Putnam followed up with single through the right side.  DiDonato moved the runners along the baseline.  Blinkiewicz then brought Rogan home to narrow the gap to 7-4 heading into the seventh.

The Titans added one more run in the seventh and kept the Gators off the board in the bottom of the frame to seal the win.

The Gators are back in NCAC action Wednesday (April 2) at home against Oberlin College.
