WOOSTER, Ohio— The Allegheny College softball team dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader to the College of Wooster Wednesday (April 19) on the road
The Fighting Scots took game one 4-0 and game two 8-3.
GAME ONE
Paige Blinkiewicz led off the game with a single up the middle. With two outs,
Taylor Massart singled through the left side to put runners on first and second, but the Fighting Scots got out of the inning unscathed.
The Fighting Scots got on the scoreboard in the second. After a leadoff walk, Wooster brought a run across with a two-out single.
Megan Hazlett singled with two outs in the fourth but the Fighting Scots got out of the inning without surrendering a run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Wooster turned three hits into three runs as they increased their lead to 4-0.
Once again, the Gators hit a two-out single in the sixth but Massart was left stranded.
The Gators kept the Fighting Scots off the board in the bottom of the sixth. However, the Gators were unable to make up the deficit in the top of the seventh as they fell 4-0.
Massart led the Gators by going 2-of-3 from the plate. Blinkiewicz and Hazlett hit singles.
Kala Mahen went the distance on the mound for the Gators, giving up seven hits while striking out five.
Maddy Chase led the Fighting Scots offense with two hits and three RBI. Jenna Kendall picked up the win, striking out three while allowing four hits.
GAME TWO
Similar to game one, Blinkiewicz led off the game with a single. She would steal second, bringing Massart to the plate up with two outs. Massart hit into an error which allowed the Blinkiewicz to come around from second for the run.
In the bottom of the first, Wooster earned a walk to leadoff. The runner eventually came home on a two-out single to tie the game at one.
Rachel Ramsey earned a walk to lead off the third, and moved to second on Blinkiewicz's second hit of the game.
Maria DiDonato reached on a fielder's choice but Ramsey was called out at third on the play. With one out,
Jessica Zavolta was walked to load the bases. However, the Fighting Scots recorded the final two outs to get out of the jam.
The Fighting Scots threatened in the fourth, putting runners at first and second with no outs, but pitcher
Miranda Arison got the Gators out of the jam without allowing a runner to cross home.
The Gators rallied with two outs in the fifth to tie the game at two,
Jessica Zavolta singled through the left side. Massart followed up with a single to put runners on first and second. Hazlett hit a RBI single, plating Zavolta to tie the game.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Fighting Scots chained hits together as they regained the lead with a pair of runs. In the bottom of the sixth, Wooster tacked on four more runs to take an 8-2 lead into the seventh.
Blinkiewicz led off the seventh with a double to left field. After moving to third on a DiDonato groundout, Zavolta brought her home with a single up the middle. However, the Fighting Scots recorded the final two outs to seal the win.
Blinkiewicz led the Gators with three hits and two runs. Zavolta also tallied a pair of hits and a RBI.
Arison went the full seven, giving up four earned runs while striking out five.
Stephanie Little led Wooster with three hits and three RBI. Chase struck out four in the win.
The Gators are back in action this weekend for a doubleheader at DePauw University.
