Gators Suffer Setback at #11 DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind.--  The Allegheny College women's basketball team was unable to overcome 11th-ranked DePauw University as they fell on the road 99-54 Saturday (Feb. 4) in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.

The teams exchanged baskets to start the game until they were tied at six.  The Tigers then went on a run over the next four minutes, outscoring the Gators 13-3 to take a 19-9 lead.   The waning minutes of the quarter were controlled by DePauw as they took a 27-12 lead into the second quarter.

The Tigers scored the first seven points before Delaney Arbore got the Gators on the board in the second with a three.  After the Arbore three, the Tigers went on a 13-0 run to push their advantage to 47-15.  In the final two minutes of the half, the Gators outscored the Tigers 5-4 but trailed 51-20 at the break.

Arbore led all scorers with 10 points in the opening half.  In addition to her point total, she grabbed a team-high five rebounds.  Zoe Soilis netted four points.

Soilis tallied the first point of the third quarter with a free throw.  After a DePauw layup, Meaghan Wilby answered with one of her own.  The ensuing nine points were netted by the Tigers before Soilis broke up the run with a pair of free throws.  After trading baskets, the Gators slowly chipped away at the lead in the closing minutes of the quarter but were behind 69-36 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The first couple minutes of the fourth were evenly matched, with the Tigers leading 78-47 with six minutes to play.  The remainder of the game belonged to the Tigers as they closed it out on a 21-7 to secure the conference victory.

Arbore finished with a game-high 19 points with six three-pointers.  She also blocked three shots and collected six rebounds.  Soilis heated up in the second half to finish with 16 points.  She also led the Gators with seven rebounds.  Madison Caufield tallied five points, four rebounds and two assists.  Jazmen Moore had a team-high four assists to go with four points and four rebounds.  Kaylah Pinkney grabbed five rebounds.  Off the bench, Kiersten Librizzi and Wilby combined for nine points.
