OBERLIN, Ohio-- The Allegheny College women's basketball team was unable to overcome an Oberlin College second quarter run as they fell to the Yeowomen 67-40 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play Wednesday (Feb. 15) in Oberlin.
After the Yeowomen scored the opening points on a three,
Zoe Soilis put the Gators on the board. The teams stayed even until the Yeowomen went up 7-4 three minutes in.  The score stayed that way until
Delaney Arbore hit a three two minutes later. The final four minutes of the quarter belonged to Oberlin as they outscored the Gators 11-2 to take an 18-9 lead into the second.
A jumper by
Meaghan Wilby opened up the second quarter, bringing the lead down to seven. However, the Yeowomen gained control of the quarter, netting the ensuing 13 points to take a 31-11 lead with two minutes to play in the half.Â
Sadie Longo broke the run up but the Gators found themselves trailing 32-16 at the half.
Olivia Barkley led the Gators with four points in the opening half while
Kiersten Librizzi had four rebounds. The Yeowomen outrebounded the Gators 24-22 though half of Allegheny's rebounds were on the offensive glass.
The Gator offense came to life early in the third, scoring the first four points off the quarter. After a pair of free-throws by Oberlin, Hailey Seifert hit a free throw followed by a steal and layup to bring the lead down to 13, 34-21. Once again, the Yeowomen responded by taking control of the quarter as they took a 51-25 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, the Yeowomen's lead grew to as much 30 as they continued to control the pace of the game. The Gators gave a late push but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.Â
Soilis led the Gator offense with nine points. Librizzi and Barkley finished with seven points apiece.Â
Maia Joiner, Seifert and Longo had four points apiece.Â
Defensively, Librizzi led the Gators with seven rebounds while Seifert grabbed six. Soilis and Pinkney had four boards apiece. In addition to her rebounds, Soilis led the team with three steals. Seifert and Joiner had a pair of steals apiece.
Oberlin won the rebounding battle 44-40. The Gators ended the game with 20 offensive rebounds. Twenty four of the Gators points came in the paint.Â

The Gators play their final regular season game Saturday (Feb. 18) against Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
