HIRAM, Ohio—The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell on the road to Hiram College 78-45 Saturday (Dec. 9) in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.
The Terriers gained a 4-0 lead early on before shots from
Delaney Arbore and
Kaylah Pinkney tied it up. However, the Terriers took over from there as they went on a 12-0 run, forcing a Gator timeout with three minutes to play in the quarter. Following the timeout, Arbore ended the run with a jumper but the Terriers closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 22-6 lead into the second.
Hiram's lead grew to 17 points, 25-8, minutes into the second quarter before the Gators made a run. Four straight points by
Julianna Skowron, followed by a pair of
Jazmen Moore free-throws brought the lead down to 25-14 midway through. But similar to the opening quarter, the Terriers ended strong as they owned a 38-19 lead at halftime.
Arbore and Skowron both ended the half with four points while Pinkney had three.
Madison Caufield had six rebounds in the 20 minutes.
The Terriers controlled the pace of the third quarter as they limited the Gators to just 10 points as they took a 55-29 lead into the fourth.
The Gators had their most productive offensive quarter in the fourth as they put 16 points on the board. However, it was not enough to overcome the deficit as they fell in conference play.
Arbore led the Gators with 12 points, going six-of-12 from the floor. She also had three rebounds. Caufield netted 11 points while tying for the team-high in rebounds with seven. Moore had seven points to go alongside three assists.
Zoe Soilis had four points and five rebounds while Skowron had four points and seven rebounds.
The Gators are back in action Tuesday (Dec. 12) as they travel to Capital University for a nonconference game.
