GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Behind a stifling second half, 18th-ranked DePauw defeated Allegheny 75-41 in North Coast Athletic Conference action at the Neal Fieldhouse.
Entering halftime within striking distance, the Gators (3-3, 1-1 NCAC) managed just five field goals over the final two quarters of play, as DePauw cruised down the stretch to win their sixth game in seven tries this season, and improve to 2-0 in the NCAC.
Zoe Soilis scored a season-high eight points to lead the Gators, while teammate Candiasy Crawford added seven. The Gators'
Madison Caufield grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, but the Tigers owned a commanding 52-24 edge in rebounding, while they also forced 20 Allegheny turnovers.
The teams went basket-for-basket over the early stages of a fast-paced first quarter, en-route to a 9-9 tie just three minutes into play. The Gators received four points from
Julianna Skowron, three from
Delaney Arbore, and two from Rylee Donovan over the span.  The Tigers would then quickly seize the momentum, outscoring the Gators 21-5 over the final five minutes of the quarter to take a 30-14 lead after 10 minutes.
A three-pointer from Soilis in the opening minutes of the second quarter would halt the Tiger momentum, and the teams would again trade baskets for the rest of the half. DePauw threatened to add to their lead, opening up a 37-21 lead with just under three minutes remaining, but Crawford sank three-pointers on each of the Gators' final two possessions of the half to trim the deficit to 41-27 at the intermission.
Over the first half, the Gators shot a respectable 42 percent from the field, including a 4-for-7 showing from behind the arc, but the Tigers grabbed 19 rebounds to Allegheny's nine, including 10 offensive boards that led to 17 second-chance points.
DePauw came out of the break on fire, opening the third quarter on a 13-0 run to up its lead to 54-27 with 4:32 left. Soilis would again temporarily quell the charge, scoring five points in a 90-second span, but the Tigers outscored the Gators 6-2 over the final two minutes to head into the final frame with a 62-34 advantage.
The Gators' fortunes were no better in the fourth quarter, as they connected on just three field goals over the final 10 minutes, and DePauw cruised down the stretch, outscoring Allegheny 13-7 in the fourth quarter, and 34-13 over the second half.
Sydney Kopp led the Tigers with a game-high 27 points, fueled by five three-pointers. while also grabbing a team-best seven rebounds. Claire Keefe contributed 13 points for the hosts.
In addition to her game-high 10 rebounds, Caufield topped Allegheny with three assists, while Arbore and
Jazmen Moore each pocketed two steals to tie for the team lead.
The Gators will next be in action on Wednesday, Dec. 6, hosting NCAC foe Kenyon in the Wise Center beginning at 6 p.m.
