MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College women's basketball team got a career-high 15 points from freshman guard
Candaisy Crawford, but it wasn't enough as the Gators fell to DePauw University, 72-49, this afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action.
Allegheny (7-5, 2-1 NCAC) struggled from the field, shooting just 27.4 percent (17-62) overall and 16 percent (4-25) from behind the arc. Crawford's game-high 15 points were seven more than the Gators' second-highest scorer, senior forward
Emma Pellicano.
Pellicano added two steals to go along with her eight points. The fourth-year forward now has registered multiple steals in five consecutive contests, pickpocketing a total of 21 opponents during that stretch.
Senior guard
Jessica Mrdjenovich scored six points and dished out a team-high four assists. Her classmate
Kaitlyn Fromknecht blocked four shots to push her season number to 52, which is one shy of tying her career-high that she set last season.
DePauw (9-3, 3-0 NCAC) was incredibly efficient on the offensive end, making half of its 50 field goal attempts and 90.5 percent (19-21) of its free-throws. The Tigers, who were picked by the coaches in preseason to win the NCAC, received 14 points from Maya Howard and 12 from their leading scorer Emily Budde.
The visitors held a slight edge in points off turnovers (19-18) and larger advantages in bench points (32-16) and points in the paints (38-16).
Allegheny will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. as it hosts Wittenberg University to close out the weekend.
