No. 15 Yellow Jackets Snap Gator Winning Streak

BEREA, Ohio – A quick-striking and consistent offense pushed Baldwin Wallace, ranked No. 15 in the most recent D3Baseball.com Top 25 Poll, past the Gators in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday at Heritage Field.  The Yellow Jackets picked up a 12-6 win in the first game before an 8-4 decision in the nightcap to clinch the sweep.

Senior Zach Gray finished the doubleheader with three RBI, picking up a pair of hits for the Gators.  Junior Joe Killian went 2-for-3 in game one, driving in a team-high three runs while forcing a pair of walks, picking up another hit in game two.  Sophomore Jacob Shick batted 2-for-4 in game two, bringing in a run.

The sweep snaps the Gators' four-game winning streak that closed the spring training trip.  Allegheny, owners of a 6-5 overall record, played its eighth game in seven days on Tuesday, continuing a very busy opening portion of the season for the Blue and Gold.

Senior Adam Bronson scored two runs in game one, driving in a run in game two, as Sophomore Shea Beaumont added a RBI in the first game of the afternoon.  In addition, senior Ben Murray alongside sophomores Patrick Orr and Andrew Dawson each crossed the plate for the Gators in game two.

Game two of Tuesday's doubleheader saw the Gators battle back-and-forth with the Yellow Jackets, as Allegheny responded to a pair of runs by Baldwin Wallace in the bottom of the first with two runs in the top of the second.  Murray kicked off the inning with a single to left, as Dawson was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners aboard with one out.  Gray laced a double down the right field line to score Murray and Dawson, tying the game, 2-2.

Three-run innings in the fourth and fifth gave Baldwin Wallace an 8-2 lead, but the Gators started to cut into the Yellow Jacket advantage in the sixth.  Sophomore Patrick Orr led off the inning with a walk, as Bronson drove home the sophomore with a double to right.

Shick followed with a single to right to score Bronson, giving the Gators their fourth run.  However, Baldwin Wallace locked down the Gators in the seventh to end the game and clinch the sweep for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets erupted out of the gate in game one, scoring eight runs in the first three innings while holding the Gators scoreless until the fifth.  Bronson laced a double to left, followed by Gray reaching base on a hit by a pitch.

Both runners moved into scoring position after a wild pitch, as both runners scored after a single through the left side by Killian, putting the Gators on the board.

In the eighth, first year Chase Davis forced a walk, the first of six consecutive walks to Gator batters that plated three runs.  Beaumont closed the Gator scoring with a one-out fielder's choice that sent Gray home to give the Gators their sixth run of the contest.  Allegheny was retired in order to close the game in the ninth.

The Gators will start North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Saturday, as Allegheny is scheduled to take on Wooster at 12 p.m. to open the 2015 home campaign.
