Gators Chomp Cougars, 101-65, for First Win

Rachel Vigliotti paced Allegheny with 18 points, while fellow senior Jessica Mrdjenovich added 15

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny College women's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2015-16 season in dominating fashion, routing Chatham University, 101-65, on Tuesday evening from the City of Bridges.

Allegheny (1-1, 0-0 NCAC) built a 10-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Gators added to their lead in all four frames. The visitors shot 50 percent from the field (39-78) to Chatham's (0-1, 0-0 PAC) 30.8 percent (20-65) and outrebounded the Cougars, 52-36, with 20 of those caroms coming on the offensive end.

Senior guard Rachel Vigliotti led Allegheny with 18 points on six-of-nine shooting. The Steel City native converted on all five of her free-throw attempts and added eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals on the evening.

Fellow Pittsburgh-area guard Jessica Mrdjenovich hit half of her six shots from distance en route to a 15-point effort. Junior forward Meaghan Wilby was also in double-figures for the Gators, tallying 11 points along with eight rebounds.

All but two players checked into the game for Allegheny, and sixfreshmen made their collegiate debuts in the victory. One of the rookies, Jazmen Moore, made all four of her attempts from the field for an eight-point performance.

The Gators received just over half of their points from their bench as they held a 51-28 edge in that category. Allegheny also scored 28 points off of turnovers to Chatham's 10, and collected 22 second-chance points to the host's nine.

The Cougars were paced by Rachel McClain, who tied Vigliotti for high scorer honors with 18 on six-of-12 shooting.

Allegheny returns home this weekend to participate in the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Classic. The invitational, co-hosted with the men's basketball team, begins for the Gators at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 against Westminster College.
