MEADVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore libero
Terra Schall of the Allegheny College volleyball team moved into the top 10 in single-season program history for digs as the Gators fell to Hiram College in straight sets (13-25, 15-25, 15-25) this evening from the David V. Wise Center.
Allegheny (15-10, 2-6 NCAC) was out of sync offensively, hitting at a negative .061 clip for the match. Hiram (19-7, 5-3 NCAC) meanwhile collected 41 total kills on a .223 hitting percentage.
Schall led the Gators with 18 digs, upping her total to 577 on the season. The sophomore from Kittanning, Pa. jumped the 10th-place duo of Rhiannon Mauk (2003) and Joy Kosiewicz (1992), as each collected 566 in their respective campaigns, and ninth-place Traci Stoner, who tallied 568 in 2005. Schall is now 49 shy of moving into eighth place, which is currently occupied by Molly Dietz when she registered 625 digs in 1990.
Freshman middle hitter
Bree Blair tallied a team-high five kills on the evening, while sophomore setter
Justine Kelly dished out 11 assists. Kelly also found the floor on three swings and collected seven digs defensively.
Sophomores
Morgan Bush and
Leah Franzluebbers each registered three blocks at the net. Bush tallied a solo block in the second set and assisted on two others, while Franzluebbers collected three block assists.
Schall served the Gators' only two aces of the evening, both of which came in the middle frame.
Allegheny closes out the regular season this weekend when it competes in a quad match at Buffalo State. The Gators will take on St. John Fisher on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6:00 p.m. before matching up with St. Lawrence at 11:00 a.m. and Buffalo State at 1:30 p.m. on Halloween.
