OBERLIN, Ohio – Allegheny racked a season-high 27 shots, but only found the back of the net once, as the Gators tied North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin 1-1.
Playing their second double-overtime contest in four days, the Gators' record moves to 2-9-2 overall, and 0-1-2 in the NCAC, while Oberlin moves to 5-5-2 / 0-2-1.
The Gators had the better of the play throughout the first half, out-shooting the Yeowomen 10-4 and taking both of the game's corner kicks over the first 45 minutes. It was Oberlin, however, that took the game's first lead, when Tricia Souza scored off of a rebound in front to go up 1-0 with 2:20 left in the first half. .
The Gators continued to attack coming out of halftime, and didn't have to wait very long following the break to tie the game. Seven minutes into the second frame, Oberlin was whistled for a foul in the Gators' attacking end. Lauren Miller looped the ensuing free kick toward goal, and after it was touched by Hannah Zangara, Brianna Layma soared In to knock it home and tie the game.
Allegheny continued to press the matter on offense, but Oberlin keeper Jordyn Morris made four saves over the next eight minutes to keep the game tied.
Maintaining possession for the duration of the half, the Gators saw one last golden chance to score the go-ahead goal with five minutes left in regulation. Possessing the ball deep in Oberlin territory following a corner kick, a header from Hannah Smith went just high. Able to keep possession, Olivia Cushman then ripped a blast from 15 yards out, but it clanged off the crossbar.
Over the second half, the Gators out-shot the Yeowomen 12-3, with Morris posting six saves.
In the first overtime, the Gators saw their best scoring opportunity come with 3:30 left, when Niki Augustine ripped a turnaround shot from the middle of the box. Morris came up with the save, and the Gators' attempt on the rebound went wide to keep the game deadlocked.
Allegheny had two more attempts in the second overtime, but again Morris came up with a pair of saves, and the game would end without a winner.
The Gators ended the match with a 27-11 advantage in shots, with nine different players tallying at least one. Augustine led the way with five shots, including three on goal, while Smith, Layman, and Cushman totaled four apiece.
Allegheny sophomore keeper Tara Lynch went all 110 minutes in goal, finishing with three saves, while Morris totaled 13 stops for the Yeowomen.
The Gators will look for their first NCAC victory this Saturday, as they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on Ohio Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
