Justine Kelly earned spots on the 2014 Buttermaker Inviational All-Tournament team, as the Allegheny assured a second place finish with a Saturday split at Memorial Hall at Muhlenberg University. The Gators would fall to the hosting Mules, 3-1, before upending Shenandoah, 3-1, in their second match of the afternoon.
Allegheny's two-game slate kicked off in electric fashion, as the Gators used a seven-point, set-ending run to take an early, one-set lead over the Mules after Muhlenberg held match point at 24-19. Terra Schall each recorded a team-high 11 digs. Kelly grabbed 31 assists as the Gators hit .231 in their first set victory.
Samuel tacked on a career-high 19 kills against Shenendoah, hitting an impressive .311 clip to vault the Gators to a 26-24, 25-19, 23-25, 25-12 win over the Hornets. Freshman
Leah Franzluebbers concluded her strong weekend on the front line with two solo blocks and six assisted blocks against the Hornets, ending the weekend with eight solo blocks and 12 assisted blocks. Allegheny will return to the David V. Wise Center for their annual Gator Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13.
