Allegheny Announces Partnership with COOL 101.7 FM Radio

MEADVILLE, Pa. – For the 45th consecutive year, Allegheny football will have a radio broadcast for every one of its games. Changing stations after 44 years with WMGW, the Gators' have partnered with COOL 101.7 WMVL to serve as the official broadcast partner of Allegheny athletics.

“We are proud to bring the Gators to the FM dial for drastically better coverage and sound quality,” said station owner Joe Vilkie. “The partnership of pairing locally-owned radio with our local college is very exciting and we are enthusiastic about adding Allegheny football to our programming.”

In addition to live local coverage, the Gators' broadcasts will be available across the globe through the station's webcast at www.cool1017online.com.  While the initial focus for the partnership will focus on home and away coverage for Allegheny's storied grid program, COOL is also committed to exploring opportunities for the Gators' basketball, baseball, and softball teams.

The on-air talent for Allegheny's first broadcast on an FM dial includes a familiar face in Dave Hanahan. Hanahan, who served as a play-by-play announcer for the Gators from 1970-1984, will team with local legend Chuck Stopp, who has broadcasted high school football games throughout Crawford County for the last 43 years.

Allegheny opens the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Bethany College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
