Justin Smith joined the Gator coaching staff in August 2016. After spending his first season at Allegheny coaching the offensive line, he has transitioned to coaching the team's wide receivers.Â
Prior to arriving in Meadville, Smith spent two seasons on the football staff at Limestone College, where he served in a number of capacities, including tight ends coach, wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, passing game coordinator, video coordinator, and assistant director of football operations, while also assisting with the field goal, kick return, and punt teams.  In 2015, his tight end group helped anchor a rushing unit that averaged 175 yards per game, a more than 30-yard increase from the previous season.    He was responsible for creating opponent scouting reports, creating game plans, conducting all tight ends, wide receivers, and quarterbacks position meetings, and signaled the offensive play calls to the quarterbacks. Â
Off the field, Smith conducted academic review meetings, coordinated all filming and archiving/distributing of game and practice film, and was responsible for recruiting the southeastern United States, including the Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Texas.
Smith graduated from Lake Forest College in 2013 with a double major in philosophy and history. He was a four-year football letterman at tight end, amassing 26 catches for 263 yards and four touchdowns during his career, while helping the Foresters win the Midwest Conference championship in 2012.
Smith began his coaching career while still a student at Lake Forest, as he served as the assistant offensive line coach for the Southern Lakes Blue Devils, a minor league football squad based in Salem, Wisconsin that competes in the Iron Athletes Football League.
A native of Centerville, Texas, Smith is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration from Limestone, with expected graduation in 2017.   Â
