Senior Thomas Manning became the first Gator to advance to the quarterfinal round of singles competition at the Division III ITA Central Regional this past weekend. Manning picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kenyon's Weston Noall and a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Sam Totten of Augustana to advance to the Round of 32 on the first day of the regional. He then became the second Allegheny player to make it to the "Sweet 16" - joining Patrick Cole (2010-14), who did it twice (2012, 2013) - with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Radhakrishna Vishnubholta of Washington-St. Louis, before making history in a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Oberlin's Ian Paik. Manning's historic run came to an end on Sunday in a three-set defeat (7-6, 5-7, 2-6) to reigning champion Nicolas Chua of Chicago.
