Erin Detwiler

In her third season as the head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Allegheny, Detwiler is coming off the heels of a pair of highly successful seasons at the helm.

Last season, Detwiler coached then-junior Brandon Intrieri to his third All-American honor in the 50 freestyle.  After a 5-5 men’s season that saw the squad finish fifth at the NCAC Championships, Intrieri also earned his fourth All-NCAC award.  On the women’s team, Emily Capone was selected to the All-NCAC team, for the second consecutive year.  Fred Evanoff, a member of Detwiler’s coaching staff, received the first NCAC Diving Coach of the Year honor for the Gators since 2002, helping Capone earn the program’s first All-NCAC Diving honor since 2008.

In her initial season, Detwiler began to lay the groundwork to reestablish Allegheny as one of the elite swimming and diving programs in Division III, capping her season with an NCAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year award.  She led the entire women’s team to a third-place finish at the highly competitive North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Swimming and Diving Championships.  She also mentored Intrieri to individual All-American honors in the 100 fly and 100 free.

Prior to arriving at Allegheny, Detwiler served as the assistant coach and aquatic coordinator at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. During her tenure at Emory, she helped guide the Eagles to the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s National Championship.
As a coaching professional, Detwiler brings a wealth of experience formulating individualized practice plans, and is an outstanding educator with proven success providing stroke technique and analysis.

A tremendously successful coach at the age group level, Detwiler established a competitive culture for the Waunakee Rural Aquatic Team (WRAT), while also serving as coach of the Wisconsin Zone-C team. Before taking over the reins of WRAT, Detwiler enjoyed a successful four-year stint at Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wis. She was also an assistant coach for one season with UW-Milwaukee while in pursuit of a master’s degree in architecture.

Detwiler as an outstanding competitor during her undergraduate career earned All-American honors while helping NCAC competitor Kenyon College to four consecutive NCAA Division III National Championships from 1995-99.
