Cook won four letters in football, four in basketball, and two in track and field at Allegheny.  He played quarterback in football, guard in basketball, and he ran the 440 in track.

In 1939 Cook made Little All-American Honorable Mention in football and in 1940 he was named Most Valuable Player on the Gator squad.

He played left halfback and left guard for the Gators in 1936 and also punted, averaging 39 yards for 11 boots.

In the 1937 season, Cook averaged 40 yards per punt and he soon became quarterback for the Blue and Gold, tossing several touchdown passes that season.  Cook became known as the “triple threat” because of his outstanding abilities to pass, run, and kick.  He was certainly a valuable part of the Allegheny football squad due to his versatility.

Cook led the Allegheny basketball team to a record of 12-3 in 1940.  With 33 field goals and 11 free throws, he ended the season with 77 points, averaging 5.2 points per game.

A 1940 graduate who majored in history, Cook was also involved in other campus activities.  He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Kappa Phi Kappa honorary society, Playshop Theatre, Block A Club, and the History and Political Science Club.
