Virginia M. Minor, Class of ‘52
Virginia M. Minor was a tennis standout at Allegheny from 1948 through 1952, has been selected as one of the 16 charter members of Allegheny College’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
A 1952 graduate of Allegheny, Minor was a three-year member of the men’s tennis team and the first woman at Allegheny to letter in a varsity sport. The tennis team recorded marks of 9-4, 7-3, and 3-5, respectively during the years Minor participated, and she earned two varsity letters in competition with the men.
In 1948-49 as a freshman, Minor was a member of Terrapin, the synchronized swimming group which still today produces a show annually.
Since her graduation, Minor has remained active in athletics on an amateur level. During the fifties Minor held a tennis ranking in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Minor participated in the Sears Cup and owned a ranking of second in the Middle States in tennis. She is also involved in squash, having played in the Howe Cup and in the New Jersey state championships.
In 1973, Minor won the New Jersey State Amateur Squash title and was ranked nationally as a squash player.
A member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, Minor is originally from Worthington, Pa., and attended Mamaroneck High School.
She is currently employed as an advisory industry development analyst with I.B.M. Corporation
