Solymosi was an instant hit on the gridiron at Allegheny.

Solymosi, labeled the “Hustlin’ Hungarian,” led the Gators in rushing all four years he was at Allegheny.  He rushed for 35 touchdowns in four seasons and was the team’s leading scorer his freshman, junior, and senior seasons.

He still holds the Allegheny career rushing record with 3,257 yards, an average of 102 yards per game for the 32 games he played over a four-year period in Gatorland.  He still holds the career scoring record with 212 points.  The highlight of his career was being named an Associated Press Small College All-American in both 1975 and 1976.

Solymosi’s list of honors is incredible.  He was a Pittsburgh Press All District First Team performer in both 1974 and 1976; Presidents’ Athletic Conference First Team selection in 1975; conference leader in rushing and scoring in both 1975 and 1976 and he was the Allegheny total offense leader in 1975 and 1976.

Following his career at Allegheny, Solymosi returned to Erie where he joined the family business.  Today, he is an assistant manager at Allied Construction. He and his wife, Fran, have three sons, Tibor III, Miklos, and Ranen
