Robert T. Buck, Class of ‘54

Robert T. Buck was selected as one of the 16 charter members of Allegheny College’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  Buck was a soccer, basketball, and track and field standout from 1950 through 1954.  A 1954 graduate of Allegheny, Buck earned four varsity letters on the soccer squad, four letters on the track and field team, and three letters on the basketball team and served as captain for all three sports during his senior season.

A goalie for the soccer squad, Buck led the team to season records of 2-6, 3-2, 1-4, and 4-4, respectively, and was named an All-American in his junior and senior seasons.

On the basketball court Buck netted 240, 200, 275, and 274 points, respectively in each of his four seasons, and upon graduation was ranked second on Allegheny’s All-Time Basketball Career Scoring List with 773 points.  The only player ahead of Buck (at that time) was Eugene P. “Bud” McIndoe, ’53 (1,244 points) who also became one of the charter members of Allegheny’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  Buck played Gator basketball under Coach Robert M. Garbark (Allegheny, ’32), who also became a charter member of the Hall of Fame.  The Gator cage teams during Buck’s season compiled records of 3-12, 5-11, 13-6, and 10-10, respectively.

In track and field, Buck competed primarily in the high jump event.
