Rick Grimm had one of the most remarkable careers in Allegheny baseball history, despite spending just two years in the program. After transferring from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, Grimm earned third-team All-America honors as a senior in 1989, back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year awards in addition to being named to the All-Region First Team in each of his two seasons. Additionally, he was named to the league’s All-First Decade team, as he is one of just four Gators on the squad.
He batted .446 for his two seasons, including a blistering .466 in 1988, a school record that stood for eight years. He followed his strong opening campaign by batting .430 with eight home runs and driving in 56 runs. His 18 doubles in 1989 currently stands as the second-highest total in school history. His .446 batting average is the second highest career total in school history, while his .537 on-base percentage has not been topped since. He is also ranked second in career slugging percentage, while hitting the 11th most doubles and totaling the 14th most bases in school history, despite only playing for two years.
