Norwood W. “Snivvy” Kerr, Class of 1920
Kerr was a football and basketball star at Allegheny from 1916 through 1920.
A 1920 graduate from Allegheny with a Bachelor of Science degree, Kerr was a freshman class treasurer, treasurer and two-year member of the Men’s Senate, and a member of the Kaldron yearbook Board in his sophomore year.
The teams on which Kerr was a member totaled a 13-6-3 record in football (1916, 4-2-1; 1917, 6-3; 1918, 2-1; 1919, 1-3-1) and a 31-18 mark in basketball (1916-17, 7-6; 1917-18, 10-3; 1919-20, 8-6).
The 1917 football squad which tallied a 6-0-1 record tied for the best record in Allegheny football, first set in 1914, and it has not been tied or surpassed since. In basketball, Kerr scored 72 points as a junior and held his personal opponents to 42 points. As a senior he scored 62 points and held his personal opponents to 36 points.
The basketball teams’ opponents from 1916 through 1920 include West Virginia University, Colgate, University of Buffalo, Syracuse University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Detroit, Carnegie Tech and University of Rochester.
A member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Kerr was also a member of the honorary fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma.
Kerr was originally from Meadville and attended Meadville High School
