Mortimer E. Graham, Class of 1922

Mortimer E. Graham was a football and basketball performer at Allegheny from 1919-1922.

A 1922 cum laude graduate of Allegheny, Graham received his degree in three years.  Also, he did not participate in sports as a freshman, but he was an instant leader once he joined the Blue and Gold forces.

Graham was for two years a member of both the football and basketball teams for Allegheny, and in his final season served under football Coach G. Herbert McCracken, who was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1972.

While earning varsity letters each of the two years in each of the two sports, Graham played halfback on the gridiron squad and played the “running guard” position on the basketball court.

Graham, who was elected Phi Beta Kappa, was a two-year member of the varsity debating team, winner of the Philo-Franklin Oratorical contest, winner of the Wakefield Oratorical contest, winner of the Intercollegiate Oratorical contest, a two-year Literary Monthly staff member, and class president as a sophomore.  He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Originally of Oil City, Pa., Graham attended Oil City High School.
