Allegheny College Athletics

Mike Mates was a dominant force in the trenches on the gridiron. A four-year letterman along the Gator offensive line, he earned First Team All-NCAC in 1986 and 1987. During that ’87 season, he helped lead Allegheny to its first-ever NCAC title and NCAA playoff appearance. Following the season, he was named All-American and later earned Allegheny’s Male Athlete of the Year.
