Beginning in 1978 and ending in 2004, Maureen Hunter Hager held many titles in her 26 years of dedication to Allegheny Athletics including Coordinator of Campus Recreation; Associate Director of Recreation; Associate Director of Physical Education and Recreation; Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach; Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, and Interim Director of Athletics.
In addition to the above, Hager served as an instructor for both health and physical education courses and the freshman seminar program. Other duties regarding the “physical education” aspect within Hager’s tenure included: determining course offerings and class schedules; assigning courses to department staff members; evaluating teaching performances; overseeing the physical education budget; chairing the curriculum revisions committee as well as serving as the department liaison to the Dean’s office.
Hager also served on a multitude of committees at the national, conference and campus levels. Those at the national level included: the NCAA Division III Management Council, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Academic Review Panel, the Administrative Review Panel and the Championship Committee. Within the NCAC, she served most notably as the Chair of Women’s Athletic Directors in addition to serving on various committees over the years.
On Allegheny’s campus, Maureen was an active and involved administrator. She served as an advisor to SAAC; chaired the Academic Standards Committee for three years; was a member of the Sexual Harassment Advisory Committee, the Campus Life Committee and the Allegheny College Association Scholarship Committee, in addition to being the co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Allegheny Community Child Care Center.
For several years, Hager also served on the Athletics Hall of Fame Nomination and Selection Committees.
